We started off our first week of the New Year with our Ultrasound appointment! I had been losing sleep for way too long anticipating this appointment. I get scared every time I have a doctors appointment, praying that everything is progressing well with the baby. A friend I have here had just miscarried twins, so I was even more unsure and scared. I am grateful for modern medicine to help put my concerns at ease.
Casey, Canyon and I all went to this appointment and Canyon was very concerned the whole time because the room was completely dark besides the monitor showing our healthy baby. My bladder was Very Full, so it was a pretty uncomfortable thirty minutes while the doctor checked from every angle to make sure the baby was measuring well, was developing well, and of course to see the gender. The little stinker had her legs pulled up so we couldn't see the gender very well. However, after checking from various angles, the doctor concluded that it's a baby girl. We have loved the name Alena for several years (yes, we had it chosen before Casey even served a mission). So, Baby Alena is due to enter the world on May 11, 2012.
I, of course was thrilled with the news that it was a girl, but I would have been happy either way. As long as our baby is healthy, that is what really matters to any expectant mother. I loved that the doctor explained what she was looking for during the ultrasound. With Canyon I had no idea what we were looking at. Alena was very well developed and you could see her profile just perfectly. The doctor explained that her brain looked great, her heart looked great, her bladder, etc. I was very happy to hear this.

I am excited to have another little baby that I already love with all my heart, but I am very nervous at the same time. Being a mom once is hard...being a mom twice, I'm a little scared! I know that everything will work out, and I am grateful for the knowledge that our children chose Casey and I as their parents and the Lord is trusting us to do our very best with them. I love our little boy more and more every day, and I know that my heart has also wrapped around Alena. I can't wait to meet her, and know that it will be very challenging...but also very rewarding.
